Our next photo competition for this year is now open for our members to submit pictures of Birds in Arid Habitats.  We're not going to attempt to closely define "arid habitat"; we'll be applying our own "pub test" to submissions.  But to help, we'll be using this map of Australian climate regions as a guide; the arid regions are those areas shown as Desert or Grassland - most of Australia!Australia climate map MJC01

We’re intending to be fairly relaxed about what we’ll accept for this competition. What we’re really after is birds that occur solely or predominantly in arid regions/habitats. To that end, we’ll accept photos taken outside an area of arid habitat, as long as that species is commonly found within arid habitat.  A further point which might assist: we won’t be considering permanent or temporary wetlands (eg. places such as Lake Eyre when it contains water) within arid regions as being arid habitat.

This competition is open to members for submission of entries until 6PM (AET) Monday 8th October 2018.  Images for this competition must have been taken within the last two years.  Images submitted to previous competitions, or to the New Images gallery, may be submitted to this competition; if you choose to do this, you must resubmit the image to the competition gallery; images moved from another existing gallery will not be accepted.  See the Photo Gallery - Competitions section for full details and rules of our competitions, and quick access to the current competition galleries.
