I saw this bird, a Black Shouldered Kite sitting high in a tree on Moore's Lane, a few kilometres east of Kilmore, about 50km north of Melbourne.
Too far away for a good shot but tried anyway.

When I got a home and had a close look, I discovered in the two best pictures, what looks to an arrow protruding through the neck of the poor thing. I wasn't able to get a rear view as the bird flew off without appearing to be handicapped in any way.

Could the bird have been pierced by a stick during a chase?

Have any members seen anything like this before?

I did archery a number of years ago. Seems very small for an arrow. Looks more like a thorn. Also no flights at the end. Hopefully, just something stuck in its feathers.
