Firstly, this is by no means my best image but I thought it might be of some interest despite the poor image quality.

I was recently out on the Marrakai Track (Northern Territory) when right up high in the hazy sky I saw these two birds circling together.

I immediately recognized the unmistakable shape of a wedge-tailed eagle but could not tell at first what the much smaller bird was. I thought it may have been a Whistling Kite but when I had a look through my binoculars I saw it was a Little Eagle.

I pulled out the camera and stretched that 600mm lens to the max (crop factor and all) and was at least able to obtain these images.

I thought it was cool to see Australia's largest and smallest eagles side by side and to see the size comparison.

I agree Rob, very interesting to find these two birds together, presumably on the same thermal. A useful observation for the record books. Thanks for showing us these images.

Cheers, Ian

I hoped it might be of interest. That Marrakai track is a great place. I really want to get some good photos of that little eagle up close.
