Hi gang
It has been suggested, that during editing in photoshop, while the bird is outlined, that, this is a good opportunity to clone out the flash shadow. A great idea. Does that mean that the photo will, now, not be eligible for submission to competition?

Hello Peter,

I assume you are referring to our BLP member comps. The rules do not specifically mention the clone tool or prohibit the use of the clone tool and they do not prohibit local adjustment of the lighting. Local lighting adjustment can also be done using other options such as the dodge tool and the shadows adjustment slider. Regarding shadows, the rules say 'moderate' adjustment is acceptable so at the very least I think this means a harsh shadow, whether from a flash or natural light, could be ameliorated. This is a 'grey' area (no joke intended) and my preference would be to leave it as such unless some outrageous abuse occurs in which case the moderator has the discretion to reject the image (with an explanation). Members who vote also have the opportunity to not vote for any image they feel is a bit 'dodgy' and not within the spirit of the rules or the theme.

Cheers, Ian
