This page provides access to selected educational or technical articles which have been published in our bi-monthly Newsletters (between 2012 and 2019) or on this website.  These have been grouped into several categories, based on their content.  It does not include any of the Mystery Reviewer Critique articles, which are also of educational value, as these are easily accessible via the Mystery Reviewer Critiques page in this Resources section.

Articles will generally be as originally published, and thus reflect the time when they were written (eg. the particular version of software current at that time).  We may occasionally update articles to make them more current.

Our policy is that articles published within the last 24 months are only accessible to BirdLife Photography members, who must be logged in to see them.

These articles cover a range of topics primarily relating to the process of photography, such as photography basics, flash photography, photographing birds in flight, and approaching birds in the field.

Consistent with our policy regarding Newsletters, articles published within the last 24 months are only accessible to BirdLife Photography members, who must be logged in to see them.

These articles relate mainly to processing of image files after they have been transferred from the camera to a computer.  They include use of computer software such as raw convertors and image processing software such as Digital Photo Professional (DPP), Photoshop/Photoshop Elements (PS/PSE) and Lightroom (LR), and the steps recommended to get the most out of your photographs through image processing and development.

Consistent with our policy regarding Newsletters, articles published within the last 24 months are only accessible to BirdLife Photography members, who must be logged in to see them.

These articles mainly deal with ancillary equipment, but general articles about camera bodies, lenses and settings will be included here.  We have not published any reviews of specific cameras and/or lenses.  There are some articles about lenses and teleconvertors in the In-depth Technical Articles section.

Consistent with our policy regarding Newsletters, articles published within the last 24 months are only accessible to BirdLife Photography members, who must be logged in to see them.

These articles cover detailed technical analysis of camera sensor and lens performance.
