Commenti have entered this image as the Pheasant Coucal is a notoriously difficult bird to get clear photographs of as they are often on the ground in thick undergrowth or disappearing into distant trees. I have seen very few clean photographs of Pheasant Coucals in flight which is why I have entered this image. This bird jumped from the ground into a tree with no foliage. It was obviously unhappy and was preparing to fly to another tree around 30 meters away. I quickly changed my settings to "bird in flight"t and fortunately was able to get a series of shots as the beautiful bird flew from one tree to another. I was really happy with this photo which almost suggests the Pheasant Coucal is a competent flyer, we all know they are not.

Canon 200-400 f4
iso 500- 1/20000 - f8 - 560mm - manual exposure - hand held
Initially processed in Canon DPP 4 to crop, adjust exposure and lighting and perform noise reduction on bird. A 16 bit TIFF file was created from the RAW DPP image and finished in PSE (Adobe Photoshop Elements CC) where the background was noise reduced and the main subject sharpened.
