Scientific Name = Procellaria aequinoctialis
Wingspan = 1.3 - 1.4m
Conservation status (BWL) = Vulnerable

This species was misidentified as Black Petrel x9

The White-chinned Petrel is named because of a small white patch on the chin, but not all birds have this. The White-chinned Petrel is separable from the Black Petrel by plumage colour. The Black Petrel is quite a dark bird whereas the White-chinned Petrel it a dark brown.

Some other identifying features are:

- Wedge-tipped tail
- Tube nostrils
- Dusky bill tip
