Conservation status (BWL) = Endangered

All entrants were correct with their identification of the White-headed Petrel. However, not all entrants were able to provide correct details for wingspan.

Also known as the White-headed Fulmar, this mostly solitary bird feeds on crustaceans, mostly at night. It’s head is a pearl-grey colour, darkening to mid-grey on the mantle and continuing until the rump where it becomes a pale grey. Some other identifying features are:

- Dark upperwings
- Underwing dark, primaries and secondaries are lighter
- Dark eye ‘smudge’
- Black beak
- Pointed tail, wedge-shaped when spread
- Pointed wingtips
