I had the chance to visit WA Perth just over two years ago. I love the Australian Honey eaters. We don't have any at LHI. Played around a bit with this image in LR selective sharpened the bird and reduced noise in the background.

Glenn Pure	2018-07-27 08:55:43	Jack, I can't comment specifically on things you could do in Lightroom as I don't use it. So I'll keep my comments fairly generic regarding issues that I see. Tonal range and lighting adjustments looks fairly good to my eye. Colour looks fairly close too, although there might be a slight magenta cast? Not much in it though. The bird does look less sharp than I'd expect even though you indicate you have applied some sharpening. Maybe a little more will help or maybe you haven't sharpened after final size reduction as this can make a shot look somewhat soft too. Noise looks well controlled. The main issue with this one is, I think, composition and the situation you've found the bird in. The perch is fairly busy and not a lot you can do about that. That out of focus branch upper right is somewhat distracting as is the twigs lower right. With a slightly tighter crop and a bit of cloning, you could deal with these if you so chose. The rest of the background looks fairly good. Hope that helps.
Simon Pelling	2018-07-27 11:53:22	Jack I agree with Glenn's comments. In my experience Lightroom is relatively conservative in how it sharpens when it exports so you could try exporting with a higher setting eg click the check box for output sharpening in the Export dialogue box and apply the 'High' setting. Keep an eye on sharpening halos. I think the yellow wing feathers are slightly over-exposed which in my experience is easy to do with these birds, but this is easy to pull back a bit with the local tools. I agree that the main issue is the overall 'balance' in the composition because everything is in the bottom left corner. I would pull the top right corner down and across to get rid of the excessive space and get the bird more central. This would also have the benefit of removing the out of focus branch in the top right corner. The light is fairly soft and the colours slightly cool, and you could try warming the white balance a touch and maybe increasing clarity. The combination of the red and yellow is always pleasing.
