CommentThere were quite a lot of wood ducks on this relatively small dam at various times - 30 or more at one point. There was a lot of 'talk' between the two in the photo with the female 'honking' regularly and the male a little later (and much more quietly). Earlier in the day I saw one pair copulate while on the water, which surprised me but apparently they can breed all year if the conditions are right.
EquipmentCanon 700D with 100-400mm handheld at 400mm
1/160 sec, f8, ISO 400.
Initially processed in Canon DPP 4 to crop, adjust exposure and lighting and perform noise reduction on bird. A 16 bit TIFF file was created from the RAW DPP image and finished in PSE (Adobe Photoshop Elements v9) where the background was noise reduced and the main subject sharpened.
