CommentFour emus were loitering around a farm dam not far off the roadside. We pulled over and wandered across to have a look. The birds were unsure whether to let their curiosity or fear of strangers win the day though. There was much to-ing and fro-ing but some got close enough for a few good shots. I really like the feather detail on this young bird's neck - and the wary look. The crop is about a quarter of the frame area.
EquipmentCanon 80D with 100-400mm handheld at 400mm
1/1250 sec, f 8, ISO 1600.
Initially processed in Canon DPP 4 to crop, adjust exposure and lighting and perform noise reduction. A 16 bit TIFF file was created from the RAW DPP image and finished in PSE (Adobe Photoshop Elements v9) where further noise reduction was applied to the main subject using Neat Image plugin for PSE. The background was noise reduced and the main subject sharpened.
