Comment:There have been small numbers of Scarlet Honeyeaters occasionally visiting the ACT. This year the numbers are up with at least six spotted in the ANBG at the same time.
They present a significant photographic challenge. They move around rapidly and are often moved on by larger honeyeaters. The preferred grevilleas usually have plenty of sticks and leaves to obstruct views. Finally, the reds in the birds tend to dissolve detail. And when the light capture is increased to capture detail in the blacks, the reds tend to turn orange.
Woe is the photographer.
The plumage of this male is a bit unusual because of the amount of black on the crown and the nape.
