Hi Andrew, I use a Spyder 3 Elite on my MAC laptop and although it is long in the tooth, is does a great job. Datacolor has updated the software on a couple of occasions to assist in keeping up. You can purchase a new Spyder 4 at about $250.00 http://www.kayellaustralia.com.au/photography-c-199.html

Les referred to Eizo self calibrating screens, which do a wonderful job recalibrating while the unit it asleep. They are rather expensive but are exceptionally good across the color gamut and are approx 99% of RGB color space. I started with a basic 17" Eizo many years ago and it is still in service, (my son has commandeered it)
