Hi all
My favorite photo comp is in progress. The best photo of the year. For photos taken from January 1st to November.
What happens if a cracker of a photo is taken in December?.
Does that image miss the chance to enter the best comp of the year?.
Like to hear your thoughts.

Peter, I think you have made a good point here. I'm sure the intention is not to exclude images taken in the December of last year. The cut-off date should really be the end of the previous year's 'best of' competition closing date

Hi Chris
I was thinking along those lines too. But whatever the hard working committee decides on will be fine by me.
Thanks for your input.

Hey Guys,
Me thinks that this is only an oversight, I would be happy if the comp ran 1st of January to 31st of December with entries opening on 1st December and closing 14th January and then winners announced a month later? Something along those lines allows you to get your images in early if you have taken them earlier in the year and the extra couple of weeks for those taken later in December. Then a committee checks and collates and then I'm unsure as to who votes? Is it a public vote or a technically versed 'pro' committee of judges??
But anyway, I don't think that poor old December was deliberately slashed and burned from the list. . .

Hi Peter, and others,

You've raised an interesting point here - and the quick answer to the question about a cracker of an image taken in December is sadly that it is not eligible. The competition is "Best of 2017", not "Best of the Year"; the same situation existed for last year's "Best of 2016" competition. And sorry, we're not going to change the rule mid-stream. However, what we will do is move the "Best of NNNN" competition from being the last in the year in question, to the first in the following year; that will allow our members to choose from a full year's collection of images.

And for Bruce (and any others who are not aware of exactly how competition voting works): the "Best of NNNN" competition is judged in the same manner as all our competitions - by member voting. For details of how this works, see here: birdlifephotography.org.au/index.php/photos/competitions/competition-voting . Also, each level of these competions will be judged by a Mystery Reviewer; for details of how this works, see here: birdlifephotography.org.au/index.php/resources/mystery-reviewer .

Hi Rob
Totally agree with you.
Wether a 'calendar year' or 'split year' is the criteria to be met. Is fine by me.
I would hate to see the best photo of the year miss an opportunity to be presented.
Thanks for your response.
