Hi Everyone. There is probably several excellent articles about this on the website but I'll ask anyway :)
When downsizing my 16 bit tiff from 4532 x 3021 to 1800 x 1200 in PSE (with scale styles/constrain proportions and resample image - bicubic all ticked) I end up with an image of 17.3MB.
I then re-select the bird and sharpen. If I 'Save As' at this point and keep it as a Tiff I still like the quality.
When I 'Save As' and choose JPEG with highest quality '12' and 'progressive' it creates an image of only 849kb which looks terrible.
Is this normal for converting Tiff to JPEG or can I reduce this loss of quality? The image is only slightly cropped and I think it looks good prior to converting to JPEG.
This issue has stopped me sharing images on the BLP website so I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Hi Kathy

I don't see this issue myself. I save using 'Baseline (Standard)" option. I've found 'Progressive' doesn't open reliably in some software (eg DPP). I don't know if this is related to your problem. But before commenting further (which may not happen soon as I'll be away for a few days), it would be great if you could indicate in more detail what is 'terrible' about the shot after conversion?

Hello Kathy,
I am just wondering if you are viewing your finished JPEG in 'fit to screen' view or 1:1 view. The 1:1 view will give the sharpest looking image. A 'fit to screen' view is produced by resampling your carefully finished image to fit the width or height of your screen and in the process, some mild blur is usually introduced.
