Yet another bird I am having difficulty with. Sighted last week in dry woodlands at Woodlands Historic Park near Melbourne airport. My stabs at identification include a Jacky Winter or a Black-Headed Honeyeater but some aspects don't seem to fit, so maybe there is a more obvious answer, although possibly the photo itself is not providing enough information (taken at some distance, I'm afraid). There is a brownish tinge to some of the plumage.

It looks like a swallow or martin to me. Possibly a young tree martin given the lack of much colour on it. However, I'm not very familiar with these.

Many thanks for your quick feedback, Glenn. I did not consider a Tree Martin but checking the series of photos I took, I think it is definitely a Tree Martin. I note from the guide book it does favour river red gum habitats, which is where I saw it. A first sighting for me, so very pleased to be slowly adding to the number of species that I am sighting.

Definitely Tree Martin, I would be inclined to adult.

Many thanks for this further confirmation, Simon. I hope to revisit the spot soon and get a better photo of one.
