CommentThe two species of quail that need work to separate are the Stubble Quail and the Brown Quail. They are roughly the same size and while their habitats are a bit different (comparatively moister for Brown Quail and drier for Stubble Quail) their range overlap is large.
The jizz is very useful. Brown Quail look fairly plain brown. Stubble Quail look strongly striped.
This image is a an easy one. The distinctive orange throat is diagnostic for a male Stubble Quail. The female Stubble Quail has a white throat. Brown Quail male and females have rufous throats.
