CommentDistinguished from similar Hutton's Shearwater by the obvious 'saddle-bags' on the flanks visible in this image between the tail and wing. Ventral views of this individual confirm that it is Fluttering Shearwater. The birds are usually found sitting on the water and fly off low and fast when approached making photography difficult. There is only one poor quality image of this species in the BLP archive.
EquipmentCanon 5Ds + 300 mm f/2.8 II + 1.4x III extender, hand-held.
Manual, spot metering, AI Servo AF with 8-pt expansion, f/7.1, 1/3200 sec, ISO 400.
Processed using DPP4 and PSE14 with Neat Image plug-in.
