This species was misidentified as Red-necked Stint x2, Little Stint x1

The Sanderling is distinguishable from the Red-necked Stint by the lore colour. The lore of the Sanderling is light whereas the Red-necked Stint has a dark loral stripe.

The Sanderling is also distinguishable from the Little Stint by the lore colour (Sanderling has a light lore, Little Stint has a dark loral stripe).

Some other identifying features for the Sanderling are:

- Dark wing bend (sometimes hidden by breast feathers)

- Legs black

- No hind toe on foot

- Bold white wing-bar, visible in flight

- Mostly white underparts, sometimes all-white
