CommentI have submitted this image due to the encouragement of the presenters after attending the Bird Photography Conference at Fremantle W.A. This image is enhanced by the mirror reflection which gives balance not only to the image but also the ducks standing on one leg. The pink ear spot also shows up well with their brown barred flanks which give the ducks a presence while standing on one leg. I believe the male is on the right as it looks larger with large eye patch and bill, with the female on the left. [Moderator's note: according to HANZAB 'sexes identical in plumage; females smaller but differences not distinguishable in field...adults sexed on cloaca with difficulty'. On the balance of probability I have accepted these two as a pair (IJW)].
