CommentThis Spring has seen an excellent flowering of callistemons in S E Qld. We have several trees in our garden and the blossom is in high demand. We once had a good variety of honeyeaters all through the year until a few years ago when the noisy miners invaded. This meant that most honeyeaters disappeared from our garden, and if they tried to come back they were promptly chased away again. As the photo shows the noisy miners are still doing their best to get rid of any competition for the trees. Birds such as little and noisy friarbird, little wattlebird, and brown and scarlet honeyeater have returned to our garden and are not going away. The noisy miner still tries to chase all other species, however, they are fighting back. The brown and scarlet honeyeaters fly away, but are back within about a minute. The wattlebird and friarbirds are holding their ground and are even chasing the miners at every opportunity, and we are cheering them on!
