CommentI was delighted to photograph this varied sittella today over a period of 5 minutes. It was one of a flock working up and down tree trunks plus on and under branches while digging out bugs and grubs. The one in the photo found a whole colony of yummy items securely tucked away under a strong piece of bark. The sittella worked tirelessly chipping away until it gained the first piece of food. After that it hammered away vigorously breaking off piece after piece of bark and scoffing bug after bug. I was using a long lens (400mm plus 2x extender) so captured many poster sized photos of this lovely bird in action without disturbing its feeding.
