CommentI am not entirely sure of the status of this duck. A number of years ago a musk duck called 'Ripper' was introduced into the wetland ponds at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. I am not sure if this is the same bird - if so he would be well over 15 years old having survived the 2003 bushfires which destroyed the reserve. Although the ACT is within this species' natural range according to bird guides, I don't think this is a wild bird. In this photo it is performing its courtship display (accompanied by a loud whistle) although no female was present. A grass stem has been cloned out of the foreground.
