CommentFellow birdwatchers told me I could find Pardalotes at Royal Park but despite many visits over the past few months, I had never found any. Of course, bird photography is a very hit and miss activity, with the accent on the miss, but a few mornings ago, I came round a bend on a less-frequented path to suddenly see a tiny brightly coloured bird hovering like a humming bird in front of some gums leaves just a few paces ahead. As Gerard Manley Hopkins put it - after watching a Windhover - “my heart in hiding/stirred for a bird – the achieve of, the mastery of the thing”. I was too unprepared to photo the hovering bird but this image shows one of the same flock bobbing and darting around the same tree. A male from its yellow throat and marked white spots.
