CommentI chose this image as I felt it offers a different take on the head and bills theme of the competition. I believe it meets the criteria for inclusion - all that is visible of the female is head and bill, and it definitely shows detail - but I think it also tells a story, which is difficult to do with the more typical head and shoulders / portrait type image. For me, the strong points of this image are the detail (I was using a 600mm lens with a 1.4x TC at very close range on a 42MP camera), and the emotion invoked by a cute, fluffy duckling being fed by its doting mother. In spite of the low levels of ambient light, I elected to maintain a high shutter speed, and stopped down on the aperture (which meant I had to push up the ISO to quite high levels) in an attempt to maximise detail and eliminate motion blur.
EquipmentSony Alpha A7R mk iii with Sony 600mm f4 and Sony 1.4x TC. Shutter 1/1000, f7.1, ISO 5000.
