CommentI ticked the “Display” keyword when posting this image. At first I thought the bird was simply preening and perhaps having a good wing and tail stretch at the end of the session – but several times he would fly off for a few seconds and then return and adopt the same pose. A female bird was perched to the right of him (just out of view). I then formed the opinion that he might have been performing some sort of display ritual to attract the female. I would be interested to know if anyone could confirm that this is a common display ritual amongst Rainbow Bee-eaters.
