CommentThis is the rare Salvin's Albatross which breeds on NZ sub-Antarctic islands and mainly disperses east to South America. I have chosen this ventral view because it shows the key ID points for the adult of this species and which can be reliably used to distinguish it from the common Shy Albatross. These points are the grey head, black tip to lower mandible and ragged leading edge from the carpal joint to the outer wing.
EquipmentCanon 1DxII + 400 mm f/4 DO II + 1.4x III extender, hand-held. Manual, spot metering, AI Servo spot AF, f/5.6, 1/2000 sec, ISO 800. Processed using DPP4 and PSE14 with Neat Image plug-in.
