CommentI photographed this Honeyeater coming in to water, South-west Slopes NSW.
I had some difficulty in the species ID. It appears to be immature and the yellow-plume suggests either a Fuscous or Yellow-plumed Honeyeater. I would be grateful for comments re ID. [Moderator's note: adult Fuscous HE. Changes in colour of bill, gape and orbital skin are complex and related to breeding activity, timing of which varies with local climatic conditions. Data collected in Vic and NSW suggests transition from non-breeding to breeding occurs in winter and starts with orbital ring darkening, as in this image. followed later by darkening of gape and bill.
