CommentThis is ssp. peninsularis which differs in colouration to the nominate Barking Owl found on the East Coast (ssp connivens) which is a much darker/greyer spp. compared to the warmer tones of this northern spp.

This photograph was taken just outside of Broome where this owl has adapted to preying on the many shorebirds that inhabit Roebuck Bay.

The shot was unfortunately taken in the middle of the day with difficult light conditions in a heavily wooded area creating areas of bright light then shade as the foliage moved in the wind.
EquipmentCanon EOS R5 Mark IV, Canon EF 500mm f4L IS II USM Lens & Canon EF 1.4x III Extender

Handheld at 700mm, exposed at 1/1000 secs, f/8 on ISO 400. Manual

Processed using DPP4 (using Ian Wilson's notes) & Lightroom with Topaz plug-in for noise reduction.
