CommentTwo Little Egrets, distinguished from Intermediate and Great Egrets by their relatively smaller size and blacker bills, were mounting watch over a shore outflow at the eastern end of the Western Lagoon, no doubt watching out for some small fish. They are apparently more common in northern Australia than here in the south. This one took to the air, wings illuminated by the noon sun, in a moment of streamlined perfection before flying effortlessly away along the shore line.
