CommentOn land, ungainly. In flight, perfection. This Australian White Ibis was sighted following a number of others on route in the same direction from their home colony on a small island in Coburg Lake in the middle of Melbourne. Poet Ian Irvine Hobson writes: "Ibises (scribes) are ‘pests’ in today’s new Australiaof fast money, climate change denial and government
sanctioned human rights abuses. In eastern seaboard cities, colonies of birds – escapees from inland drought – clamour for pastries and fish-food in parks beside suburban lakes." (https://www.artvilla.com/plt/the-australian-ibis-sister-to-the-sacred-ibis-a-poem-by-ian-irvine-hobson). This certainly describes our 100+ White Ibis colony at Coburg Lake, who have only made their home here over the past two years, no doubt driven by drought conditions elsewhere. The image is processed in black and white, highlighting the beauty of the bird’s outstretched wings against the grey and white of the clouds above.
