CommentOn several occasions I had seen an Oriole visiting the water drinker in our garden. The drinker is situated under a small mallee, giving the birds a safe approach and relative safety when drinking or bathing. So I set up my portable hide and waited. I was in luck. The Oriole arrived and spent some time drinking. It was difficult to get an image that was not totally shadowed. I chose this image as I liked the way the light fell on the side of the bird just as it lifted its head to swallow the water, and the filtered light was just at the right angle to create a pleasing catchlight in this birds amazing red eye. As the bill is slightly opened ,the interesting shape of the tip can be seen. The heavy shadows in the background complete this composition of light and shadows.
EquipmentCanon EOS 7D mark II ,Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM , Ext EF 2x III
1/2000sec @f/5.6 ISO 800 Spot metering. Focal Length 600mm . Bird Hide. Tripod.Processed in Lightroom using Topaz Denoise AI plugin to reduce noise .Transferred to Photoshop to downsize and final sharpening.
