CommentThe huge feet, the powerful legs and the shadow of the emu’s body convey a strong statement about the size and strength of Australia’s national bird emblem. In the arid outback of red sand and scrappy vegetation it finds water where it can, however small the puddle. The reflection of just the bill tells a story of survival in a harsh environment. The bird is thirsty, but wary, watching the camera. The morning light is already bright and emphasises the heat, the dry and the rich red colour palette on many pastoral properties in the bush.
