CommentMy first visit to WTP and I was amazed by the raptor encounters - yet my host for the day, a WTP regular and permit holder, judged it a well below-average day for the area (would love to strike it at peak!). This very cooperative subject suddenly appeared at close range, enabling an excellent photo opportunity. This seems to be a good example of the light morph of the Brown Falcon.

Manual exposure, 1/1600 sec, f/9, ISO 800, spot metering
Processing: This image presented a challenge. I was restricted from exiting the mobile hide (car) when this bird appeared, for fear of flushing it, meaning I was confined in shooting angle and captured a horizon line at about breast height behind the bird. This was addressed firstly with editable gradients in Lightroom Classic CC, then further with narrow-band luminosity masks in Photoshop CC, which seems to have mostly solved the problem. Noise was reduced with Neat Image in Photoshop CC, and final sharpening was applied with Smart Sharpen after size reduction to web submission dimensions.
