Conservation Status = Endangered

An Autumn-Winter migrant to Australian waters. Slightly smaller than Light-mantled Sooty. Identifying features are:

- Chocolate-brown plumage
- White incomplete eye-ring
- Cream to orange ‘sulcus’ on lower mandible
- Wedge-shaped tail
- Slightly curved wings in flight
