CommentThis spinebill is usually a very flighty and timid feeder in my backyard moving rapidly from bush to bush. This photograph was a taken the first clearing day after a week or more of heavy rain from a very slow moving east coast low. While I was hanging out the washing this chap started feeding less than a metre away and ignored me while I located and set up the camera and shot him feeding. It was a moment of sheer pleasure to watch the bird feed and feed and I could photograph the beautiful contrast of his underside against the purple of the bloom.
