CommentWith its spotted head, I initially mistook this for a Pardalote but closer inspection suggests a Yellow-rumped Thornbill with a bright yellow rump, grey head, and white supercilium. The brown tinge to the iris compared to the paler eyes of an adult indicates this is likely a juvenile. It seems that Thornbills can also hover with the best of them. I noticed some of the group hovering occasionally around the trunk of a large eucalypt as they looked for insects in boles and bark fissures.
