CommentThe Black Bittern's plumage is described as having a diagnostic yellow neck stripe. I chose this image as I was surprised and delighted to find this young bird perched in the open in golden morning light above a small creek on Edith Falls Road. Usually so secretive, I knew I wouldn't have long to take my shots so I positioned myself as quietly and best I could to try and create a clean background for my subject. It was challenging because of the black in the background and the chocolate of the bird but I was overall happy that I had some contrast between the subject and the background and I like the gold/ yellow and brown of the plumage. I also liked this image because I feel the plumage is different to other Black Bittern's I've seen in the past.
