CommentThe identification of wandering-type albatross is sometimes quite challenging, made worse by the taxonomic disagreements across the world. The Working List of Australian Birds identifies this bird as an Antipodean Albatross, ssp antipodensis Peter Harrison , author of, Seabirds of the World, argues that the Antipodean Albatross is a separate species from the Gibson's Albatross that also occurs in these waters. Although not obvious in this image the ssp antipodensis has a much darker upper wing and more prominent dark cap than the ssp gibsoni
