| Comment | ssp cauta. There is very little that distinguishes the Shy Albatross, commonly found inside the continental shelf of south-east Australia, from the White-capped Albatross, commonly found from the NZ Sub-Antarctic Islands to the coast of South America. In flight, separation of the species is nigh on impossible, but some individuals of ssp cauta have a distinguishing yellow wash to the base of the upper mandible as seen in this image. Unfortunately it's a variable distinguishing feature. | ||||||||||||||||||
