| Comment | The Little River Ford at Werribee is always worth a stop to look for various raptors. The nearby large tree with a high dead branch seems to be a convenient way station for kites, kestrels, falcons, harriers, Little Eagles and even Sea-Eagles, all of which I have seen there or nearby, if not on the large tree, then on nearby fences or posts, as this Nankeen Kestrel was doing. This is most certainly a female Nankeen Kestrel with her characteristic rufous head and upper tail. One of our smallest and slimmest of raptors but always a delight to watch, especially when you see it hovering over grasslands looking for mice, small birds, lizards and insects | ||||||||||||||||||
