| Comment | A Brown Falcon in flight above Shrubby Glasswort at Western Lagoon, Werribee, displaying its beautifully fanned and barred wings and tail, and signature double black cheek mark (malar stripe and ear patch). A study at Werribee, according to HANZAB, indicated that its main method of attack here was hovering-and-dropping (80% of methods)(https://hanzab.birdlife.org.au/species/brown-falcon/). Studies of Brown Falcons at Werribee indicated that here they mostly took "rabbits, small passerines and reptiles [in] spring and summer, mice in winter, and orthopterans [grasshoppers, locusts and crickets] in autumn” (ibid.). Brown Falcons, as the ABG notes, “are more generalist hunter than the primary bird-hunting falcons” (p.238). | ||||||||||||||||||
