| Comment | Sometimes a little difficult to secure a close-up portrait as they are given to lengthy dives and submarine hunting before popping up in an unexpected spot too far away for a portrait. Here is a female sighted on the Little River, Werribee. She was evidently taking a more relaxed rest break in between dives. Her stiff tail is very much on view. Along with Blue-billed Ducks, they are the only stiff-tailed ducks in Australasia. Females do not have a male’s large pendulous throat lobe and are smaller than males but otherwise look very similar. | ||||||||||||||||||
