| Comment | It was late afternoon, and the light was soft and warm. There were not many birds around, except for a Silver Gull. It was busily searching the smooth surface left by the outgoing tide. As I watched, it found a target. It pulled, lifted, carried and dropped it, then pinned it with a foot and played with it until the play was gone. Then, in a few long gulps, it swallowed it. Down the hatch. Almost as entertaining were the passing comments among the beach walkers: “It's only a seagull!” The light, a common Silver Gull, and its antics combined to create a fascinating experience to savour.
