CommentWelcome Swallow. the photo was taken on my NIKON D90 with the TAMRON AF 18-270mm. I really like this image but i'm not sure if the Bird is too out of focus. Any feedback is welcome!

I think the focus is reasonable although the eye is too dark to be absolutely sure. There is some detail visible in the plumage.

I think the main issue with the photo is exposure. The highlights on the breast are clipped (overexposed, completely washed out) and the shadows are too dark. I think these things would benefit from some adjustment in post-processing. However the extent of the white clipping may make any recovery in this area difficult.

The other issue, in my view, is that the bird is very centrally placed, surrounded by lots of mostly empty background. I think a tighter crop would be beneficial. It is also often better, in a fairly uncluttered portrait such as this, to have the bird facing through the image rather than simply placed in the centre.
