When posting a new topic, please ensure that you select the correct category for your post in the top drop-down box of the edit window. Hi Anna

In this case, you are probably better off using the 'brightness' (option a) to darken it. If you want to do it via levels, you'll need to move the grey point to the right and maybe the black point as well. Nothing much you can do about the over-exposed background. That's the disadvantage of starting with a jpg file: there's no capacity to get much more detail into the highlights or shadows.
