CommentThis Laughing Kookaburra was quite content to perch here in the early morning light after having been chased from a more open perch by an Australian Magpie.
EquipmentEquipment: Nikon Z8, Nikkor Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S
Settings: 600mm, f/6.3, 1/800s, ISO-2200
Workflow: Processed in Lightroom and sent to Photoshop for downsize, sharpen and export.
Field notes: The second of two images I have posted of this scene. I usually prefer a profile photo of this species in order to showcase the bill, but in this case I quite like the pose captured. This is a great example of the benefits of subject eye detection. In the past, I would almost certainly have ended up with the bill in focus, rather than the eye.
Processing notes: Being backlit, the darker parts of the plumage have needed shadows to be raised to bring out the detail.
