CommentThis Shy Heathwren was foraging and always on the move, occasionally hopping up and perching very low in the scrub. It was most at ease under the cover of foliage, moving very quickly to the next area of cover when it found itself in the open. The bold supercilium and wide nature of the streaks, as compared to the female, suggests this bird is a male.
EquipmentEquipment: Nikon Z8, Nikkor Z 600mm f/6.3 VR S
Settings: 600mm, f/6.3, 1/640s, ISO-2500
Workflow: Processed in Lightroom and sent to Photoshop for downsize, sharpen and export.
Field notes: I was crouched behind scrub for cover, holding the camera at ground level with the screen flipped up, and was happy to capture this image without disturbing the bird as it foraged and moved on.
Processing notes: I tried to expose for the supercilium so as to retain detail in this characteristic part of the bird. As a result, shadows needed to be raised on other parts of the bird. There are some distractions in the scene, but I have left these as captured to represent an accurate depiction of the habitat.
