CommentFemale Tasmanian Masked Owl (subspecies castanops). I studied this owl at the Uni of Tasmanian between 2007- 2014. Had the rare opportunity to see lots of masked owls. I like this pic as she seems to be showing off her deadly talons on her left foot. I would have used a spotlight to assist focus and then flash for illumination. Removed some remaining red-eye in Adobe Lightroom. I wish I had noticed the branch coming out of the head before taking the photo!
EquipmentCanon EOS 40D, with Canon EF 500mm f/4, at f/7.1, 1/125 sec. ISO 200. Flash on bracket off camera.
