CommentA portrait of a Blue-winged Parrot observed feeding on Beaded Glasswort (Sarcocornia quinqueflora), the succulent perennial shrub that is often found in coastal saltmarsh habitats and very common along The Spit near the Western Lagoon at Werribee Treatment Plant. The slightly less deep blue of the wing, and the very pale yellows around the eye (compared to the deeper blues and yellows in a male) suggest this is a female. She is chomping on one of the abundant “red grapes” of the Glasswort with plenty more where that came from, not only on this bush but the sea of red that the coastal saltmarshes become at this time of the year.
